Solid waste segregation remains a priority, incorporating public guidance and assistance. The new solid waste site is designed to meet current and future need of the hamlet, and satisfy territorial and federal requirements for waste disposal. In 2014, the fencing of the new solid waste site will continue. The fencing project (see attached sketch), builds on work in 2013, which aimed to detail as-built structures, based on prior years work.
Ongoing projects at the landfill will include signage to identify: bulk metal waste, white metal waste (fridges, washers/dryers, etc), hazardous waste (oil, fuel, batteries, drums), empty drums, fuel tanks, tires, vehicles / ATVs / skidoos, honey bag pit, waste animal pit, domestic / household garbage, paper / wood / cardboard – designated burning area, green waste – hrubs, trees, grass, etc. Segregation will assist in developing an organized that residents respect and will help maintain.
