The Sir Alexander Mackenzie School (SAMS) in Inuvik, NWT, is a building that was inaugurated in 1959. It consists of two floors which include classrooms, offices, bathrooms, five mechanical rooms, a gymnasium, a library, closets and storage, a wood working shop, a dental office, and a daycare facility. With the building of a new school, the school was closed in 2012 and it will now be demolished.
The demolition of the SAMS is to be executed by the Gwich’in Development Corporation (GDC) as lead contractor, with sub-contrators Canadian Quest Logistics (CQL) Inc. [Engineering and Project Management Division], as project managers and project engineers. The GDC has been awarded the demolition contract, including hazardous waste abatement and site reclamation, by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), Public Works and Services (PWS) Department.
